In the 1920's John Frank Mitchell established a plumbing and heating business, Stone and Mitchell, in Porterville, CA. His son, Westley F. Mitchell (or Wes), would go on to found Mitchell Aire in 1936 when he obtained his sheet metal and heating contracting license.

Wes worked in the local Cedar & Belmont area until all sheet metal was redirected toward the war effort in the 1940's. During that time Wes taught sheet metal fabrication at San Jose State College in San Jose, CA.

80 Years of Service - Four Generations

In 1951, Wes moved back to Fresno and opened a residential heating and cooling contracting business near Blackstone and McKinley. Wes quickly developed a reputation as a meticulous craftsman but the business remained small.

His son, Rollie Mitchell, left his accounting position with Producers Cotton Oil and joined his father to further develop the family business in 1960. During the 1960's many loyal business relationships were established that still exist. Mitchell Aire has been a proud subcontractor of Western Homes since this time. The 1970's saw Mitchell Aire add plumbing contracting to their business services. That association ended toward the end of the decade when the HVAC portion of the business continued to grow.

In 1979, Rollie's son, Ken Mitchell joined the family business as part of the sales team. 1980 would see Mitchell Aire move to its present location on West Shaw Avenue. Ken would go on to take over the business in the mid 90's and oversees all operations to this day.

Mitchell Aire's success can be attributed to the many faithful employees whose expertise and knowledge helped develop the reputation of being people who care about their customers. It is not uncommon to find many employees have been with the firm for over 20 years.
